Your advanced clients are craving the excitement of an inspired challenge. This workshop will focus on the transitions and advance you ability to direct flow “Minimum of Movement for Maximum of Flow.” Come prepared to move.

ANATOMY AS IT PERTAINS TO PILATES

This workshop spotlights anatomy with respect to Pilates. We'll take time understanding the bony landmarks of the body and the main muscle groups that are worked in Pilates. Be prepared to move.

This lecture will discuss the most common diagnoses and treatments seen in the cervical and thoracic spine. Illustration and imaging-based review of the anatomy followed by a discussion of the most common diagnoses and treatments of the upper spine.

ANATOMY OF THE LOWER SPINE AND PELVIS AND THE CONDITIONS MOST COMMONLY DIAGNOSED AND TREATMENTS ASSOCIATED (Scott Laker, MD)

This lecture will discuss the most common diagnoses and treatments seen in the lumbar spine and pelvis. Illustration and imaging-based review of the anatomy followed by a discussion of the most common diagnoses and treatments.

ART OF TOUCH AND CUE (Susan Moran)

You will explore cueing of the “Full Powerhouse” through verbal and touch cues. The movement is just the beginning; the work happens when you go “vertical” with your teaching and deepen the client’s experience of the “Full Powerhouse”. Come prepared to “see” the traditional exercises with x-ray vision.

BARREL PROGRESSIONS (Julianna Afram)

Joseph Pilates created a beautiful progression on an often-overlooked piece of equipment: The Barrels. The Barrels allow access to a gradual opening of two very restricted areas of our body: The hips and shoulders. We will work through this progression from Small Barrel up to the Ladder Barrel in such a way that it becomes easier to incorporate the Barrels into almost every workout.

CHALLENGING SPECIAL CASE CLIENTELE

This workshop will answer the questions of how and when to challenge special case clientele and provide you a deeper understanding of how the body reacts to different kinds of physical impairments, including the lower back, knee, hip replacement, prenatal and more. We will teach how to incorporate a small ball and theraband on the Cadillac and Reformer for a safe, yet effective workout.

CLASSICAL PILATES – IT’S A WORKOUT

Flow is much more than moving quickly through a list of exercises. Let’s figure out what flow is and how to create it within each move, repetition and exercise. Flow has a lot to do with how you think of the workout and how you use your voice. It will change your teaching for the better.

CREATE AN INTRO TO TOWER CLASS (Lesly Levy)

This workshop will cover two aspects needed for teaching Intro to Tower class. First, a review of Intermediate Wall Unit exercises appropriate for an Intro level Tower class; second, you will learn/review the teaching formula needed for an Intro to Tower Class. This formula will help you organize the class so transitions and flow provide for a safe, fun and effective workout. Come prepared to move.
Pre-requisite: Open to instructors with Apparatus teaching experience. All Power Pilates Tower class instructors are required to take this workshop.

DYNAMIC & STATIC ASSESSMENT WITH ACTIVCORE (Mary Garrity)

This workshop will cover body mapping in dynamic postural analysis and static postural analysis. Participants with pain, asymmetry or injury will be the bodies for demonstration of the effectiveness of ActivCore.

FORMAT A WUNDA CHAIR WORKOUT (Susan Moran)

This workshop will teach you the “how to” when teaching on the Wunda Chair. A review of Intermediate /Advanced level exercises will be covered as well as the teaching formula needed to maintain a safe yet effective workout. Come prepared to move and sweat in this workshop!

FUELING YOUR BODY FOR OPTIMAL ENERGY

This nutrition workshop will highlight foods that are key to maintaining a healthy diet when fueling a physically demanding career in Pilates and fitness. In this workshop you will learn about basic meals, snacks and combinations that build and maintain your energy and uplift your spirits throughout your workday. We will provide nutrition tips and suggestions to share with your clients to inspire better workouts and a healthy lifestyle.

GYROKINESIS® Master Class (Kathy Van Patten)

GYROKINESIS® is a core strength movement system that incorporates the benefits of yoga, tai chi, swimming, gymnastics and dance. Created by Juliu Horvath, also the creator of the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM®, this movement system is wonderfully beneficial to everyone. The class works in circular and spiral movements to allow the entire body to stretch and strengthen through the seven natural elements of spinal movement. HOW TO SEE EFFECTIVELY (Davidson Reid)

Learn how to create an effective ”C“ module to individualize and maximize your clients’ sessions. You will learn critical reasoning skills that will help you to properly assess what a clients specific needs are and how to address them with exercises that incorporate the four S’s – Strength, Stretch, Stamina and Stability.

INTERMEDIATE REFORMER WITH VARIATIONS

This workshop is ideal for instructors and strong Intermediate level clientele who want to review the exercises, transitions and variations of the intermediate Reformer. We will focus on optimal technique in regards to performing and teaching aspects, as well as the progressions to the Advanced level.

JUMP! How to teach Jumpboard (Bob Liekens)

More than the ordinary challenge! In this workshop you will learn or review the Jumpboard exercises suited for Advanced clientele. The Jumpboard offers an element of cardio with another challenge for the Powerhouse. Come prepared to move, sweat and have fun!

MUSCLE ACTIVATION AND HEALTH
(Christopher D. Ingersoll, PhD, ATC)

This workshop will introduce the concept of arthrogenic muscle inhibition (AMI). AMI is a clinical impairment caused by an ongoing reflex inhibition of musculature surrounding a joint following distention or damage to structures of that joint. Participants will learn the basics of the neural pathway of AMI, understand the consequences of AMI on health and function, and identify potential candidates for disinhibitory interventions. The concepts of compensatory and restitutive strategies following disruption to normal muscle activation will be introduced and discussed. A discussion of how traditional strength training programs may reinforce suboptimal muscle activation strategies will bring the concepts together in a practical way for the participants.

This workshop will help instructors work more effectively with a growing male client base. Common patterns of muscular imbalance and weakness among men will be addressed, as well as specific ways to improve them. SPICE UP YOUR MAT WITH WEIGHTS (hand and ankle)

We will provide tools to help you creatively and effectively utilize one of your most powerful teaching tools: your voice. POWER PILATES BOOTCAMP (WORKOUT)

This workout is geared to get you moving! During this workout you will be pushed to your Pilates “edge” by not ONE, but TWO Power Pilates instructors. You will begin with one instructor on the Reformer or Mat/Tower for half the session, then switch, and finally join together for a collective ending. Ideal for Instructors and Clients. Get Powered Up!

GYROKINESIS® (WORKOUT) (Kathy Van Patten)

Join us for a Gyrokinesis Beginner/Intermediate: Format I workout. Starting seated on a stool we will explore movements of the spine incorporating breath, fluidity, rhythm and coordination connecting one movement to the next. We’ll further connect the spine to the legs before moving onto the mat where we will further challenge the entire body through rhythmic movements.
